Thinking Theism

Why Judaism?

I felt drawn to the feasts of Torah, the Jewish community and the rich monotheistic tradition. As a seeker of truth, I needed to be free to study and learn on my own while in fellowship with people who accepted me.

Think!

So much of our religious tradition has the influence of other religions which a seeker of truth should never ignore.  Judaism is far from perfect which is why I had no problem with peoples of differing belief systems. Nothing touched by man is pure.

The Ideal Belief System

The ideal belief system must be:

  • honest enough seek the truth
  • objective enough to be tested
  • flexible enough to change

In Reformed Judaism I had the liberty to grow closer to G-d while shrugging off the shackles of spiritual dogmatism.

What Now?

There is no hilltop for the seeker of truth as he performs teshuvah. If a man's faithful to a nickle's worth of truth and love, God will reveal the dime.

Teshuvah never ends, but my association with organized religion did eventually. I found that no matter how hard I tried, I just didn't fit in. It seems that so often people go through the motions of the doing of religion out of habit.

I needed more than that, yet I did not know what it was I was looking for.
